The Martin High School Band Leadership Team recognized five community leaders whose generosity made this year's MHS Leadership Band Camp possible.
Honorees included Ms. Lupita Cepeda, Ms. Cynthia Mares, Mr. JD Delgado, and Mr. & Mrs. John Galo for their support of the Martin High School Band.
Held at San Francisco Javier Parish, the three-day camp provided 32 Tiger Band students with a meaningful leadership experience, helping them build skills that will serve them both in and out of the band hall.

Laredo Independent School District taxpayers will soon be able to make their tax payments at the Webb County Tax Assessors Collectors Office. LISD recently entered into an agreement with the Webb County Tax Assessors Collectors Office to consolidate its property tax collection services giving the County authority to collect taxes on behalf of the District. Beginning Thursday, July 16, LISD tax payers will make their LISD property tax payments at the Webb County Tax Assessors Collectors Office ;pcated at 1110 Victoria Street inside the Dean Senator Judith Zaffirini Justice Center.
The district-county agreement will improve efficiency, reduces administrative duplication, and provides a unified billing system. It will consolidate billing where taxpayers receive a single, combined property tax statement instead of getting two separate bills from the county and the school district.
“The agreement with the Webb County Tax Assessors Collectors Office makes paying taxes more convenient for LISD taxpayers. Previously LISD taxpayers had to pay their taxes at the LISD Tax Office which is located at the Dean Senator Judith Zaffirini Justice Center at 1110 Victoria Street,” said LISD Superintendent Guillermo Pro. “The county has more staff, ample parking, and are efficient in their collections.”
The projected savings to the district would come from reductions in operational expenses, including personnel, software, utilities, mailings, and other administrative costs. These savings will support school operations, preserve educator stipends, and reduce the need for staffing reductions. “The money we are saving through this agreement will be used for our students’ instruction and bring us very close to balancing our budget,” said Pro.
“It has always been my goal and vision to provide taxpayers with a more efficient and convenient property tax collection system. For more than three decades, I have worked toward the objective of having all local property tax entities collected under one roof at the Webb County Tax Office,” said Webb County Tax Collector Patricia Barrera. “This transition represents an important step toward that longstanding goal. By centralizing property tax collections, taxpayers will benefit from greater convenience, streamlined services, and a single point of contact for their property tax needs. Our commitment has always been to serve the citizens of Webb County with professionalism, accountability, and efficiency.”
The district states that these savings could help support school operations, preserve educator stipends, and reduce the need for staffing reductions. Closing the LISD Tax Office brings the district an estimated annual savings of over $411,000 while providing continued support for students and schools, protection of teacher and staff positions, preservation of educator stipends, and increased efficiency through the partnership with Webb County.
“I want to thank the leadership of LISD for their confidence and collaboration throughout this process. Together, we are taking a positive step forward that will ultimately benefit the taxpayers we serve,” said Barrera. “The Webb County Tax Office remains dedicated to providing excellent customer service and ensuring that property tax collections are handled accurately, transparently, and efficiently.”

The Laredo Independent School District Police Department held a swearing in ceremony for the district’s newest officers. The new officers took their oath which was administered by LISD Police Chief Doreen Hale. The officers also received their badges which were pinned by a family member.
