Congratulations to Elian Ojeda a senior football player at Martin High School for officially signing his National Letter of Intent with Wisconsin Lutheran Football team. Elian will continue his football and academic career in Wisconsin.
Congratulations to Esmeralda Gonzalez a senior at Martin High School for officially signing her National Letter of Intent with the Texas A&M International University Cheer and Dance Spirt Program. Esmeralda is also a student at the Buckley Early College High School and will be pursuing a nursing degree at TAMIU.
The Laredo City Council recognized the Nixon High School BBQ teams, the Nixon High School Girls Track and Field team, and Macdonell Elementary School Principal.
The Nixon High School BBQ teams participated at the UIL HSBBQ State Cook-Off! The Nixon One Trick Pony BBQ finished in a three-way tie for 2nd place, ultimately placing 4th after the tiebreaker. Nixon Iron Horse BBQ also fought hard, tying for 5th and finishing 6th after the tiebreaker.
The Nixon High School Girls Track and Field Team was recognized for winning the District Championship for the third consecutive year.
Macdonell Elementary School Principal Michelle Gonzalez was recognized for recently being selected as the winner of the HEB Excellence Award as the best principal in the state of Texas.

🌳 In celebration of Earth Day, the RGISC Adelante Con Árboles project team hosted a Tree Planting and Maintenance Workshop on April 21, 2026, at the LISD Performing Arts Complex.
The workshop, led by Rio Grande Valley Regional Forester Bill Green of the Texas A&M Forest Service, welcomed LISD ground crews, staff, educators, and community members to learn about tree care, conservation, and environmental sustainability.🌎
Adelante Con Árboles is one of only five projects selected statewide and focuses on strengthening environmental awareness, conservation education, and community engagement while improving climate resilience and the well-being of the LISD community.

Cigarroa High School will host a Youth Football 🏈 Camp for incoming 6th–9th graders beginning Saturday, June 6, at Aranda Field, 2600 Zacatecas.🔥
The camp will be led by Fabian Garcia, current running back at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and will focus on developing football fundamentals in a positive and competitive environment.
A great opportunity for young athletes to learn from experienced players and coaches.
