LISD is celebrating Texas Public School Week! LISD is opening its 20 elementary and four middle schools for parents and guardians to visit on Wednesday, February 26, from 8:30 a.m., to 11:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. Report cards will be issued at LISD elementary schools.

Let the Games Begin! 🏅Laredo ISD students proudly participated in the 2025 Area 21 Special Olympics Opening Ceremony at the Sames Auto Arena this morning! LISD brought the energy with spirited dance teams, cheerleaders, and drumlines, joining our athletes in the Parade of Champions. The ceremony continued with the traditional torch lighting, featuring students, law enforcement officers, and LISD Superintendent Dr. Sylvia G. Ríos, marking the official start of the games. 🔥 For the next three days, Adaptive Physical Education students from elementary, middle, and high schools will compete in track and field events, showcasing their dedication and determination. The Laredo ISD Fine Arts Department will be hosting a Rated-Player Invitational Tournament open to city-wide participants registered in public or private K-12 schools. The event is scheduled for April 5, 2025, at the Dr. Nelson Conference Room starting at 8:00 AM and will have a $10.00 entry fee. There is limited capacity, and registration will close once 400 participants have registered. Registration and payment will be done through GoFan and can be done using the QR code on the flyer. While this is for rated players only, it is a Non-USCF Sanctioned event. Any questions can be directed to the Laredo ISD Fine Arts Office at 956-273-1750.

Congratulations to LISD's talented CHS Art students! Azul Villeda showcased her incredible talent at the Birds of the Brush art competition and successfully sold her artwork for $300! Michaell Castellanos & Minerva Rivera dominated the Laredo International Fair and Exposition art contest, winning Grand Champion & Reserve Grand Champion! They competed against all Laredo high schools and brought home the gold and silver! LISD is so proud of our CHS Art students for their outstanding achievements at the LIFE Art Contest! LISD to have regular school day on Thursday, February 20 LISD is preparing for a regular school day with an early release on Thursday, February 20. All students and staff are expected to report to their campuses and/or work sites on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Custodial staff are ensuring that all campuses are properly heated and ready to continue instruction in the classroom. Parents are reminded to dress their children warmly and in winter apparel. The LISD Child Nutrition Program is preparing warm, nutritious meals, which will be served to our students during the day. The LISD Child Nutrition Program will be providing breakfast and lunch for all students on this day. To coincide with Laredo ISD’s scholastic calendar, the Laredo Independent School District has scheduled an early-release day for students on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The following schedules will be observed to allow for an orderly release of students. Students will be released according to the following schedule: Thursday, February 20, 2025 – STUDENT EARLY RELEASE SCHEDULE 1:00 PM Elementary School Students 1:30 PM Middle School Students 1:45 PM High School Students (includes Garcia ECHS, Lara Academy, Valdez HS, and VMT Magnet School) Laredo Independent School District campuses will be closed Friday, February 21, for staff development training. LISD administration, faculty, and staff will report to work on Friday morning for their required staff development training. However, there will be no classes for students on Friday, February 21, due to the required training. Students and staff will resume their regular schedule on Monday, February 24. This Valentine’s Day, the Kawas Elementary Functional Life Skills students shared something truly special—their dreams in print! At their Publishing Party this morning, these incredible young authors unveiled "I Have Big Dreams," their second published book, showcasing their aspirations for the future. Laredo ISD dedicated the Martin High School Tiger Den in memory of Miss Ruth Young. Miss Young was a dedicated educator who served the district for 50 years. She taught at Martin High School, sponsored various student organizations, and was a mentor to many. This dedication recognizes her lasting impact on the school and community.

Congratulation to Nixon High School senior, Austlynn Quiroz, who was declared the High School Grand Champion of the 2025 LISD Secondary Science Fair.
