In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, the City of Laredo Mayor, Dr. Victor Treviño and Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina hosted a Proclamation ceremony. Representing LISD at this proclamation ceremony were Board of Trustee Goyo Lopez, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Gerardo Cruz, Executive Director of Health and Occupational Safety Support Services Oscar Perez, and Director of Guidance and Counseling/At-Risk Population Department Rosina Silva.

#CharacterWins! 2 Words Character Development creator Stephen Mackey paid a visit to the Mighty Mustangs this morning! 17 athletic programs were in attendance.
Additionally, NHS student athletes and Texas 5A Letterman to Lead Scholarship recipients, which is powered by 2 Words Character Building Curriculum, Natalie Tristan and Alonso Alvarez were able to meet Mackey. Tristan and Alvarez were selected Female and Male Athlete of the Year for 5A, respectively.

Heights Elementary School students participated in H-E-B’s Annual School Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge. The school collected 25,127 plastic bags and were named one of three winners in the Border Region.
LISD student-athletes from Cigarroa, Martin and Nixon High Schools, and Cigarroa, Lamar, Memorial, and Christen Middle Schools will be honored with medals and certificates for their perfect attendance, A Honor Roll, and positive attitude. The Triple “A” award is designed to assist LISD student-athletes in developing strong academic skills, positive behaviors as role models, and the ability to demonstrate a positive attitude.
For the second year in a row, Cantu Early College High School/Martin High School students completed their certification exam with 100% pass rate. The Legends were recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions as distinguished graduates of Nixon High School. Congratulations to Martin High School and Cantu Early College High School junior Dayanara Ibarra for placing third at the State HOSA Conference and for qualifying for the National HOSA Conference this summer in Dallas. Dayanara is the first Cantu Early College student to attend the National HOSA Conference.

LISD kicked off Autism Awareness Month with various events throughout the district. Tarver and Sanchez/Ochoa Elementary Schools celebrated and honored their autistic unit students.
Tarver Elementary School teachers participated in McTeacher Night. The teachers sold cookies to raise funds for their school.
In honor of Autism Awareness Month, Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar donated Easter baskets to students at Leyendecker Elementary School.
