J.C. Martin Elementary hosted Grandparent’s Activity Day last Friday in the school library. Grandparents were invited to spend quality time with their grandchildren. The students and their grandparents enjoyed snack’s while participating in fun activities including coloring and playing lottery.

Every month at every campus, students with Perfect Attendance will be entered into a raffle for the selection of that month’s Burger King Queen and King for attendance!
Each King and Queen will be crowned and will receive a Family Pack which includes two Whopper Meals and two Kid’s Meals.
The Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts held a Patriot Day Commemoration to honor 9-11 responders. VMT student Bella Dancause read a timeline of the events of the 22nd Anniversary of September 11, 2001, Silvia Flores and Maya Lopez read the 9-11 Proclamation by then President George Bush. City of Laredo Police Chief Steve Landin addressed the students, VMT student Mikael Mendez did 10 Chime Rings while Erick Perez and Kamila Lira performed TAPS.
Ryan Elementary School held a Flag Ceremony in memory of the 22nd Anniversary of 9-11 this morning. Students read a timeline of events for the 22nd Anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks. LISD Police Officer Enrique Marks was given the honor of raising the flag to half-staff. Student and staff also waived flags as they sang patriotic songs. First Responders were present with a certificate of appreciation from the school.
Heights Elementary School held a Remembrance Ceremony to honor the 22nd Anniversary of 9-11. Students read a timeline of events for the 22nd Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. A Heights Custodian and cheerleaders was given the honor of raising the flag to half staff. Student and staff also sang patriotic songs and waved us flags.
LISD and the City of Laredo Police Department will be hosting a Parent Informative Session on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. at the LISD PAC Auditorium (2400 San Bernardo Ave.). Topics of discussion include School Safety and Security, Social Media: Cyberbullying/Online Threats, Dangers of Vaping, Accountability, and Attendance.

Sanchez-Ochoa Elementary School held an open house for grandparents in celebration on Grandparents Day. Grandparents spend time this morning enjoying snacks and coloring with their grandchildren in the school cafeteria.

Laredo Independent School District proclaimed September as Attendance Awareness Month during a ceremony on Monday morning. The proclamation was conducted in the foyer of the LISD Performing Arts Complex Auditorium.
Students, campus principals, assistant principals, attendance officers, and administrators filled the foyer in support of daily student attendance.
LISD Board of Trustees Vice President Rick Garza and Superintendent Dr. Sylvia G. Rios took turns reading the proclamation.
United States Military Academy at West Point representative Lieutenant Hanson visited Garcia Early College, Cigarroa, Martin, and Nixon High School juniors and seniors. Students listened to an informative presentation by Lt. Hanson on career possibilities after high school.
Today, active Army member Mark Zapata made a special stop in Laredo before his upcoming deployment. His visit was not just any visit; it was a surprise for his beloved sister, Kiliana Zapata. As Mark walked through the door, Kiliana's eyes welled up with tears of joy at the unexpected reunion with her brother.
Moments like these remind us of the sacrifices our military members make and the deep connections that bind families together. Mark's surprise visit was a beautiful reminder of the love and support that surround our brave servicemen and women.
On behalf of M.B. Lamar Middle School students and staff, Dr. Eduardo Lopez wishes Mark a safe and successful deployment. The Mighty Lions also send their warmest regards to Kiliana and their family as they cherish this precious time together before he heads off on his next mission.

LISD Elementary and Middle School campuses are honored with a Recognition Breakfast for placing first, second, or third in the 2022-2023 Accelerated Reader. Campuses were presented with a trophy for their efforts in promoting reading at every grade level.

Ryan Elementary School students are ready to DIVE INTO READING. The school kicked off its Accelerated Reader Program with a Parade. Pre-k students walked the hallways dressed in attire related to this year’s theme, while student in 1st -5th grade cheered them on. Leading the Parade was the Lamar Middle School Drum Line.
