LISD Police Department held its graduation for the L.E.A.D (Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence) program at Macdonell Elementary School. This 10-week program teaches third grade students the importance of saying 'no' to drugs, increases awareness on substance abuse, alcohol, bullying, etc.
MHS seniors are well on their way to higher education! Congrats to the scholarship recipients who were honored by their respective donors at their Scholarship Night. There were over $7.5 million dollars worth of scholarships offered to the Mighty Tigers!
The LISD Board of Trustees welcomed the newest member of the Board for District 2 Mr. Rodolfo “Rudy” Morales III during a swearing-in ceremony at the LISD PAC on Tuesday night. Morales was sworn in by Judge Juan Paz.
Nixon High School senior soccer players Fermin Ciriaco and Salvador Diaz have committed to play soccer at Missouri Valley College. They both signed their National Letter of Intent to continue their academic and soccer career at MVC in Marshall, Missouri. Ciriaco will be majoring in Kinesiology while Diaz will be majoring in Physical Therapy.
Students, the deadline to turn in perfect attendance vouchers at Sames is this Saturday, May 13, 2023. Students must submit their completed vouchers in person at Sames Auto located at 6001 San Dario or at the Sames location on the Zapata Highway.

Laredo ISD high school students enjoyed an informational Law Enforcement Career Fair! A big 'thank you' to all agencies who participated!
Laredo ISD students attended the Color of Justice Program hosted by 341st District Court Judge Beckie Palomo. The program serves to encourage and motivate minority students to consider the law and the judiciary as career goals. The program focuses on career preparation, academic requirements and skills needed in order to succeed in a career in the law.
Students will had the opportunity to shadow judges and attorneys. Judges discussed why they chose the judiciary as a career, their role and responsibility, and the challenges and rewards of their profession. Attorneys also shared personal and professional insights related to their practice in different areas in the law.
LISD releases students at Santo Nino Elementary School
The Laredo Independent School District is releasing students at Santo Nino Elementary School today, Friday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m. due to a water line break in the area. The City of Laredo expects the water line to be repaired within the next several hours.
Parents are asked to please pick up their children as soon as possible.
LISD Transportation Department has already sent buses for those students who rely on bus transportation.
Classes at Santo Nino Elementary School will resume on Monday, May 8, at their regularly scheduled time.

Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar announced that Laredo and United Independent are benefiting from $5,598,07 in federal funding from the Department of Education's Mental Health Service Professionals Demonstration Program. The funding , awarded to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), will be used to establish a partnership with Laredo, United, Mercedes, and Valley View Independent School Districts with the aim to increase the number of mental health professionals in our schools.
"I would like to express my appreciation to our Congressman Henry Cuellar for this generous grant," said LISD Superintendent Dr. Sylvia G. Rios. "LISD recognizes that social and emotional learning is an integral part of education and the development of the whole child. Our desire is for our children to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal goals. We want our youngsters to make responsible decisions, maintain supportive relationships, and show empathy and kindness towards others. With this grant and partnership with UTRGV, LISD will be able to expand our mental health services in person. Research shows that you don't need to have a mental illness to benefit from counseling. Someone might just be going through a tough season in their life. And we know that counseling can be effective in getting someone through a rough patch. We look forward to our partnership with UTRGV. More importantly, we look forward to helping students overcome stress, family problems, anxiety or other issues in their lives."
In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, the City of Laredo Mayor, Dr. Victor Treviño and Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina hosted a Proclamation ceremony. Representing LISD at this proclamation ceremony were Board of Trustee Goyo Lopez, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Gerardo Cruz, Executive Director of Health and Occupational Safety Support Services Oscar Perez, and Director of Guidance and Counseling/At-Risk Population Department Rosina Silva.

#CharacterWins! 2 Words Character Development creator Stephen Mackey paid a visit to the Mighty Mustangs this morning! 17 athletic programs were in attendance.
Additionally, NHS student athletes and Texas 5A Letterman to Lead Scholarship recipients, which is powered by 2 Words Character Building Curriculum, Natalie Tristan and Alonso Alvarez were able to meet Mackey. Tristan and Alvarez were selected Female and Male Athlete of the Year for 5A, respectively.

Heights Elementary School students participated in H-E-B’s Annual School Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge. The school collected 25,127 plastic bags and were named one of three winners in the Border Region.
LISD student-athletes from Cigarroa, Martin and Nixon High Schools, and Cigarroa, Lamar, Memorial, and Christen Middle Schools will be honored with medals and certificates for their perfect attendance, A Honor Roll, and positive attitude. The Triple “A” award is designed to assist LISD student-athletes in developing strong academic skills, positive behaviors as role models, and the ability to demonstrate a positive attitude.
For the second year in a row, Cantu Early College High School/Martin High School students completed their certification exam with 100% pass rate.
