Congratulations to LISD's Student of the Month for April Jaylyn Gonzalez.Gonzalez is an eighth-grade student at Lamar Middle School. She is a proud member of the Mighty Lion Volleyball team. Her favorite part of the school day is when she gets to go to athletes because she is able to work out and exercise. In her free time Jaylyn likes to draw, and play volleyball and softball. She plans on attending Nixon High School. Her main goal is to graduate from college and to hopefully become a nurse to help others. She attended Gallego Elementary School. Her parent are Vanessa Garza and Fernando Gonzalez.

Congratulations to LISD's April Youth of the Month Sara Contreras. Contreras is a 10th grade student at Garcia Early College High and is also dual-enrolled at TAMIU. She is currently taking college credit courses in Psychology and Music Theory. She likes coming to school because she is part of the dual enrollment program that allows her to attend college classes at TAMIU and receive that college life experience. Sara is an active student on campus and in our community. She is part of the Student Council, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, UIL Current Events, the school newspaper The Phoenix Quarterly, and Phoenix yearbook. Sara volunteers at her church and serves as an usher. She is a member of The Chosen Youth. Outside of school she is part of the LULAC Youth Organization and serves on the Ola committee. She enjoys playing volleyball and basketball, reading, and just going out for walks. Sara plan on becoming a forensic psychologist and attending Texas State or the University of Houston to purse her degree and PHD. She wants to come back to Laredo and serve her community with the Child Advocacy Center. She attended Ryan Elementary School and Lamar Middle School.

Congratulations to LISD Student of the Month for April Alezzandra Lozano. Lozano is a sixth-grade honors and GT student at Cigarroa Middle School. Alezzandra is a member of the school’s Robotics Team and Ready Writing UIL. She enjoys coming to school because she is able to practice Robotics so she can continue to prepare for next year competitions. Her favorite part of the day is her robotics class because she is interest in building the robots and coding them. Alezzandra’s goal is attend Harvard University to obtain a degree in Biology or the medical field. Once she completes her studies, she plans to move to New York City to go into the medical field or become a Biomedical Engineer. Alezzandra enjoys playing volleyball in her free time. She also enjoys journal writing for her thoughts. She attended Ligarde Elementary School and plans to go to Cigarroa High School. Alezzandra is the daughter of Irving and Nancy Lozano.

Congratulations to LISD Student of the Month for April Madeleine Landa. Landa is a 10th grade student at Cigarroa High School and the Sabas Perez Early College Academy (SPECA). She is part of the SPECA Program and is currently ranked 10th in her class. She likes coming to school to learn more about government and history as well as her Early College classes. Madeleine’s favorite part of the school day is her sixth period class where she is able to practice her acting with her One Act Play (OA) Director. She is an active member of HOSA, Student Council, and One Act Play (OAP). Madeleine plans on attending Texas A&M University at College Station and wants to earn a master’s degree in Bio-Chemistry. She hopes to become a Clinical Molecular Engineer. She attended Milton Elementary School and Lamar Middle School. Madeleine is the daughter Nancy Landa.

Senior softball player Stephanie Villalobos has committed to play softball and will continue her academic and softball career at Cisco Community College in Cisco, Texas. Villalobos plans on majoring in Kinesiology. Senior baseball player Louie Garza has committed to play baseball and will continue his academic and baseball career at McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas. Garza plans on majoring in Health Science and Athletic Training. Senior baseball player Gustavo Hernandez has committed to play baseball and will continue his academic and baseball career at New River Community College in Dublin, Virginia. Congratulations to LISD April Student of the Month Daniel Garibay of Memorial Middle School.Garibay is an 8th grade student-athlete at Memorial Middle School. He is both a leader and role model to his peers. Daniel is on the AB honor roll, has excellent attendance, and is enrolled in advanced classes. He likes coming to school so he can soak up as much knowledge that will benefit him in the future. His favorite part of the school day is when he gets to play soccer with his classmates and attending his second period Math class. Daniel devotes his time to his extracurricular activities as he is a vital member of the Mighty Eagle Soccer team. After school he can be found playing soccer at home with his friends or with Ciriaco a local soccer team. Daniel will be attending Nixon High School and the BIPS Early College Academy. He is undecided on what college he will attend. Daniel hopes to become a professional soccer player or have a career in the business filed. Daniel is the son of Elizabeth Ortega.
