The Laredo Independent School District Board of Trustees dedicated the new state-of-the-art Academic Building at Cigarroa High School during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday afternoon.
As part of National Diabetes Awareness Month Heights Elementary School is hosting Diabetes Awareness Spirit Week activities. Today, which is National Diabetes Awareness Day, Heights Elementary held a Diabetes Awareness Parade honoring students on campus who are fighting diabetes, while students and staff were encouraged to wear blue. Leading the Parade were Jason Orozco 4th grader and Itzayana Garza 5th grader, who are both battling diabetes. During the week the school will have various events like Sock Out Diabetes-wear wacky socks day, Kick Out Diabetes- wear your boots day, and Shade Out Diabetes -wear sunglasses day.
LISD to host Specialty Schools Open House
Laredo Independent School District will be hosting its annual Specialty Schools Open House at each campus for eighth grade students and their parents on Saturday, November 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The seven specialty schools will open their doors to the community and invite eighth grade students to tour the campus and apply for admission for the 2024-2025 school year.
The event is aimed at recruiting students who may be interested in attending any LISD specialty school for the 2024-2025 school year. The seven early college high schools and magnet school include the Business, Industry, and Public Services Early College Academy at Nixon High School, Sabas Perez Early College High School at Cigarroa High School, Dr. Dennis D. Cantu Health Science Early College High School at Martin High School, Hector J. Garcia Early College High School located at Texas A&M International University, Pathways to Technology Early College High School at Cigarroa High School, Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources (AFNR) P-TECH at Martin High School, and the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts Magnet School.

Students at Valdez High School to resume classes tomorrow
Please be advised that classes at Valdez High School will resume tomorrow, Friday, November 10, at their regularly scheduled time.
Cigarroa Middle School held a press conference to present its Autistic Student Support Sensory Room. As the first of its kind at LISD, the room provides therapeutic equipment such as weighted products, soft play equipment, ball pit and interactive wall panels, thus providing the perfect space for developing communication skills and thought processes.

Christen Middle School eighth grader Aymar Cantu has been selected for the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza 2023 National Vocal Competition Finals. The 29th Annual Mariachi Vargas National Vocal Finalist Competition is set for Saturday, December 2, at the Lila Cockrell Theater in San Antonio, Texas.
Cantu was among hundreds of musicians to submit an audition video for the preliminary phase of the competition. Aymar is one of 8 talented finalists in the Elementary/Middle School category selected to participate in the National Vocalist Competition.
LISD releasing students at Nixon High and Trevino Magnet School
Due to a water line break in the Meadow area resulting in low water pressure, the Laredo Independent School District is releasing students at Nixon High School and the Trevino Magnet School today, Tuesday, November 7, at 12:30 p.m. The City of Laredo expects the water line to be repaired within the next several hours.
