This morning, Laredo Independent School District joined Read Across America Week celebrations happening across the country! Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño and Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina led the proclamation, while 260 students from Pre-K through 5th grade enjoyed a lively “Read, Read, Read!” performance by the Leyendecker Elementary School Honor Choir before the proclamation. Special guest author Claudia Villarreal captivated students with a reading of her book, "The Alphabet Thief Who Stole the Vowels." The Laredo ISD Fine Arts Department will be hosting a Rated-Player Invitational Tournament open to city-wide participants registered in public or private K-12 schools. The event is scheduled for April 5, 2025, at the Dr. Nelson Conference Room starting at 8:00 AM and will have a $10.00 entry fee. There is limited capacity, and registration will close once 400 participants have registered. Registration and payment will be done through GoFan and can be done using the QR code on the flyer. While this is for rated players only, it is a Non-USCF Sanctioned event. Any questions can be directed to the Laredo ISD Fine Arts Office at 956-273-1750.

LISD to have regular school day on Thursday, February 20 LISD is preparing for a regular school day with an early release on Thursday, February 20. All students and staff are expected to report to their campuses and/or work sites on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Custodial staff are ensuring that all campuses are properly heated and ready to continue instruction in the classroom. Parents are reminded to dress their children warmly and in winter apparel. The LISD Child Nutrition Program is preparing warm, nutritious meals, which will be served to our students during the day. The LISD Child Nutrition Program will be providing breakfast and lunch for all students on this day. To coincide with Laredo ISD’s scholastic calendar, the Laredo Independent School District has scheduled an early-release day for students on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The following schedules will be observed to allow for an orderly release of students. Students will be released according to the following schedule: Thursday, February 20, 2025 – STUDENT EARLY RELEASE SCHEDULE 1:00 PM Elementary School Students 1:30 PM Middle School Students 1:45 PM High School Students (includes Garcia ECHS, Lara Academy, Valdez HS, and VMT Magnet School) Laredo Independent School District campuses will be closed Friday, February 21, for staff development training. LISD administration, faculty, and staff will report to work on Friday morning for their required staff development training. However, there will be no classes for students on Friday, February 21, due to the required training. Students and staff will resume their regular schedule on Monday, February 24.
