It was a great summer in Tigerland! This morning, 12 Martin High School students graduated from the Webb County Constable Precinct 1 Law Enforcement Academy.
Congratulations to MHS student Dayanara Ibarra who was named one of the top ten 10 competitors at the HOSA National Competition 2023! She not only represented MHS and Cantu Early College HS, but represented the entire State of Texas as top 10 in her Life Support Skills Event!
It's the last day of the LISD Summer Internship Program! Thank you to all the high school students that we part of the program. We appreciate your eagerness to learn. Also, thank you to the departments and community partners for mentoring the future leaders of Laredo!
Reading is sweet! Laredo Independent School District Top Accelerated Readers were recognized for their exceptional efforts in reaching their goal during the LISD Board of Trustees recent meeting. A round of applause honored Top Elementary Student Aiden Martinez, 4th grader at Santa Maria Elementary School and Top Middle School Student Leilene Gomez, 8th grader at Lamar Middle School.
Top First Place Kinder through Eighth Grade Students received a 40” Smart T.V., certificate, medal, and a goodie bag for their academic achievement and reading success. The top students include: Dovalina Elementary School Marco Renteria - Kinder; Don Jose Gallego Elementary School Crystal Nevarez - First Grade; Alma Pierce Elementary School Regina Rossel Rivera - Second Grade; Alma Pierce Elementary School Jaylah Zavala - Third Grade; Santa Maria Elementary School Aiden Martinez - Fourth Grade; Milton Elementary School Daniel Martinez - Fifth Grade; Memorial Middle School Katelyn Uribe - Sixth Grade; Lamar Middle School Ana Rios Sanchez - Seventh Grade; and Lamar Middle School Leilene Gomez - Eighth Grade.
“Congratulations to all the Top AR district students!” LISD Library and Media Services Director Mely Paez said. “I would also like to thank all teachers, librarians, administrators, and support staff for working with our students to ensure they met the district's AR goals/expectations.”
Summer Internship Program Update: The first Laredo ISD Kazen Fellows cohort composed of 10 high school students had a special visitor this week. The 24th U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas Alamdar Hamdani spoke to the students about their aspirations on pursing a career in law.
Additionally, three LISD Office of Communications and Instructional Television interns had the opportunity to interview U.S District Judge for the Sourthern District of Texas Diana Saldaña and Mr. Hamdani on the success and importance of the program.

LISD is inspiring change! Cotulla ISD's Superintendent Ruben Cervantes, Frank Newman Middle School Principal Daniel Martinez, and NMS Assistant Principal Amanda Johnson paid a visit to Martin High School and Memorial Middle School to learn more about their safety procedures.
In preparation for the 2023-2024 school year, the LISD Police Department, under the direction of LISD Chief Doreen Hale, conducted active shooter drills at Dovalina Elementary School, Lamar Middle School, and Cigarroa High School. School safety continues to be a top priority at LISD.

The U.S. Southern District of Texas Laredo Division welcomes the first LISD Kazen Fellows cohort! Ten high school students were selected to study under the direction of U.S District Judge Diana Saldaña. For the next six weeks, students will have the opportunity to learn about the American Judicial System, Federal and State Courthouse Procedures, Overviews of Municipal Law, Mock Trial Preparations, among other topics. Students will also be able to listen to informative presentations by guest speakers such as Webb County Attorneys, Federal Judges, U.S. Marshal Services, News Media, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, and others.
Nixon High School senior track runner Jada Perez signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and track career. Congratulations and continue leading with heart!

Congratulations to Natalie Tristan for being recognized as KGNS Player of the Week. She will be attending New York University and is majoring in Accounting.
Congratulations to Sanchez-Ochoa Elementary School Cafeteria Staff for receiving the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable (FFVP) Program Pear-fection Award from the Texas Department of Agriculture for 2022-2023 School Year! Sanchez-Ochoa Elementary School was the only school to receive this recognition in Laredo.
Congratulations to this years Cigarroa's graduating senior Emily Loredo for receiving the Border Patrol Youth of the Year Award! Emily Loredo has accomplished the impossible and has continued to strive for more.
Cigarroa High School senior football players Ya-aqob Lozano and David Garza have committed to play football at the University of Dubuque. They signed their National Letter of Intent to continue their academic and football career at the University of Dubuque in Dubuque Iowa. Ya-aqob Lozano has chosen to major in sports management while David Garza has chosen kinesiology.
Nixon High School senior soccer player Alexis Aldana has committed to play soccer at Huston-Tillotson University. He signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and soccer career at the Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas.
