Macdonell Elementary School is soaring with pride as Principal Michelle Gonzalez has been named one of five finalists for the prestigious H-E-B Excellence in Education Principal Award. Gonzalez earned this honor through her unwavering dedication to students, staff, and the Macdonell Elementary community.
The Macdonell Hawks filled the gymnasium with excitement as students, teachers, and staff dressed in blue and yellow gathered to celebrate alongside H-E-B representatives. During the special announcement, Gonzalez was surprised with a $1,000 personal check and a $2,500 award for Macdonell Elementary School.
In May, Gonzalez will travel to Houston to participate in the statewide competition along with four other principals in her category. The winning principal will receive $10,000, along with $25,000 for their school.
“Being recognized as an H-E-B Excellence in Education finalist is a meaningful honor that reflects our shared commitment to leadership, service, and community. I’m grateful for the dedication of our students, families, and staff, whose hard work has transformed our campus and continues to inspire my passion for making a positive impact in education,” Gonzalez said.
Under Gonzalez’s leadership, Macdonell Elementary has built a culture centered on academic excellence, student empowerment, and school pride. Known for her strong relationships with students, families, and staff, Gonzalez works daily to ensure every Eagle feels supported, encouraged, and motivated to succeed.
Each year, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program recognizes outstanding public school professionals and thanks them for their dedication and commitment. The program celebrates educators who go above and beyond to serve their students and communities while inspiring others to do the same.
Since its launch in 2002, H-E-B has awarded nearly $15 million in funding to outstanding Texas teachers, counselors, principals, public schools, early childhood centers, school boards, and school districts.
“Principal Gonzalez leads her campus with clarity, and with conviction. She focuses on what matters most-–our students,” said LISD Superintendent of Schools Guillermo Pro. “She brings her community together, setting high expectations, and inspiring everyone to believe in what’s possible. Her work reflects the very best of LISD, and we’re proud to have her represent our District at the state level. We thank H-E-B for considering such a deserving finalist.”
Gonzalez has served as principal of Macdonell Elementary School since 2022. The campus proudly serves approximately 406 students while continuing to build a legacy of excellence, leadership, and Hawk pride.
