The Laredo Independent School District Child Nutrition Program hosted its first Elementary Menu Advisory Committee (E-MAC) event of the 2025–2026 school year on Thursday, September 18, at Sanchez-Ochoa Elementary School.
Students from across the district proudly represented their campuses by sampling new food items, evaluating flavors, and completing surveys to provide feedback on potential menu additions. Their insight and recommendations will play an essential role in guiding the Child Nutrition Program as it develops menus that are both nutritious and enjoyable for students.
The E-MAC initiative empowers students to advocate for their peers while learning about the importance of school meals and healthy eating habits. The committee will convene twice during the year to review and provide feedback, ensuring that student voices are central to the planning of LISD’s meal programs.
“Student input is vital in shaping our school menus,” said LISD Child Nutrition Director, Robert Cuellar. “These taste testing events allow us to listen directly to our students, ensuring that meals not only meet nutritional standards but are also meals they enjoy.”
The first taste testing event was filled with excitement, teamwork, and plenty of smiles as students stepped into leadership roles—highlighting LISD’s commitment to engaging students in meaningful ways that support both education and wellness.
