Advanced Academics

Program Mission

The mission of the Laredo ISD Advanced Academics program is to provide equitable opportunities for students to achieve their highest intellectual potential through challenging instructional environments that encourage lifelong learning, nurture creative thinking, and foster college and career success through higher education courses to earn post-secondary credits.

In addition, the Advanced Academics department provides professional development for teachers to develop, deliver, and implement innovative quality instruction associated with accelerated learning, academic rigor, and greater depth and complexity to meet the unique academic needs of the advanced students.

Gifted And Talented

Program Overview:
Laredo ISD, in unity with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students, provides a Gifted and Talented Program to students K-12 in areas of general intellectual ability and specific academic aptitude. Students nominated for the LISD Gifted and Talented Program go through a screening process and, once identified, receive services at the campus level.

Students who participate in services designed for gifted/talented students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment. High school graduates who have participated in services for gifted/talented students will have produced products and performances of professional quality as part of their program services.
