As I am preparing to begin a new chapter in my professional journey, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to each of you. Serving alongside you at Cigarroa High School has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and leaving this remarkable school community is not easy. What makes this transition even more meaningful is that I have been blessed to serve this campus in three different roles throughout my career—as a Teacher/Coach, Assistant Principal, and most recently as El Toro Grande.
Throughout my time here, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication, passion, and resilience that define our faculty and staff. Together, we have navigated challenges, celebrated successes, embraced change, and remained committed to the students entrusted to our care. Through it all, you have continually demonstrated what it means to put students at the center of every decision. Somos Toros!
As I move into my new position as LISD Director of Bilingual Education, I do so with complete confidence in the future of this school. The strength of this campus has never been found in any one individual; it resides in the collective commitment, talent, and heart of the people who serve here every day. The LISD/UISD Driscoll Back to School Health Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, at the Sames Auto Arena. School supplies, sports physicals, health screenings, and immunizations will be offered. Don't miss out on the free services and supplies.

Checkmate! LISD’s named its top chess players after a fierce competition this past Saturday at the LISD PAC in the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Center. The LISD Fine Arts Department hosted an All-Star Chess Tournament for the district’s All-Star chess players. The top 10 winners were recognized with either a trophy or medal for their accomplishments.
Laredo ISD recognized its Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year and Clerical and Instructional Paraprofessional of the Year nominees during the district’s Employee of the Year Banquet which was held at the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Center.

Our CIS students had a wonderful time celebrating Children’s Day! 🎉 They enjoyed cereal, chocolate milk, fresh fruit, and lots of fun through interactive board games and activities. 🍎🥣
This special celebration gave our students a well-deserved break from the daily pressures of academics and responsibilities, creating space to support their social-emotional well-being. It was an opportunity to reconnect with the joy of childhood, build resilience, spark creativity, and strengthen their sense of belonging within our school community.

The LISD Athletic Office hosted the Triple A awards Ceremony at the LISD PA. The ceremony honored LISD middle and high school student-athletes. The students were recognized for having perfect attendance, straight A’s and a winning attitude. Each student was presented with either a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medal for their academic achievements.

Congratulations to our amazing Cigarroa High School students who participated in the City of Laredo's 23rd Annual Poetry Contest! Two students, Ariana Araiza and Ruben Magana, were selected as winners from over 1,000 participants. Their beautiful poems will be recited by them at the Award Recognition Ceremony this Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library in the Multipurpose Room. Everyone is welcome to go and cheer them on.
LISD hosted a Military Ball for JROTC cadets from Martin, Nixon, and Cigarroa High Schools at the LISD Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Center.

Our Earth Day Beautification Project is complete, and the finished garden in front of the CHS Literacy Center looks amazing! 🌿🌸 Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our Cigarroa HS and Sabas Perez Early College HS students, under the leadership of Ms. Deborah Laurel and Mr. Arturo Garcia, this space has been given new life. 💙🤍
From laying mulch and adding fresh soil to planting vibrant flowers and greenery, our students worked together to create a beautiful and welcoming space for our campus community to enjoy. 🌼🌱 Their teamwork and commitment show that when we care for our environment, we help our community grow stronger too.
