attendance proclamation

Showing up matters, and at Laredo ISD, every day counts! Students, families, district leaders, and community members gathered to recognize September as Attendance Awareness Month with a special proclamation ceremony focused on the importance of being in school each day.

This year’s theme, “Every Day Counts: Breaking Barriers with Attendance,” serves as a reminder that each day in the classroom is another opportunity for students to learn, connect, grow, and move one step closer to achieving their goals. The district’s attendance campaign encourages families to make regular attendance a priority throughout the school year.

City of Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño joined LISD Superintendent Guillermo Pro, Board of Trustees President Goyo M. Lopez, and six elementary school students for the official proclamation of September as Attendance Awareness Month at LISD. Together, they read the proclamation in unison, giving students a special voice in sharing the message that every day in school counts. The audience also included LISD campus principals and attendance officers.

Joining them were Jayden Gonzalez and Kaydee Reynaga from Gallego Elementary School, Kaiden Cisneros and Jianna Barrera from Farias Elementary School, and Renata Ramos and Mathew Muñoz from D.D. Hachar Elementary School. Serving as Master of Ceremonies was Leyendecker Elementary School student Kaedyn Vo.

The proclamation also placed a special spotlight on LISD families behind an incredible attendance milestone. Now high school seniors, these students have gone their entire school careers without missing a single day of class. Their achievement reflects not only their commitment to showing up every day, but also the support and dedication of the families who helped make attendance a priority year after year.

“Great attendance is a team effort, and our families are at the heart of that effort,” said Flor Ayala, LISD Assistant Superintendent for Finance, Business Services and Accountability. “Getting a child to school every day takes commitment and consistency. We want our parents to know that those daily efforts make a difference, and we thank them for helping our students understand that every day truly counts.”

Families recognized included Rosa Villanueva, parent of Paola M. Moncada; Mr. and Mrs. Espiridion Cerda, parents of Jose A. Cerda; Zenaida Blas and Damian Flores, parents of Christopher Flores; Priscilla Flores and Erick Trevino, parents of Akyllis D. Morales; Diana Cassiano and Eduardo TorresGomez, parents of Ada A. TorresGomez; Brenda Solis and Victor Cardenas Lara, parents of Sophia M. Cardenas Solis; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Garcia, parents of Mia F. Garcia; and Leticia Ortiz and Juan Lerma, parents of Jonathan J. Lerma.

Adding to the morning’s celebration, Martin High School Mariachi Los Tigres del Sur, under the direction of Ruben Guadian, performed the National Anthem. LISD Partners in Education Burger King also sponsored breakfast for students, families, and guests. Representing Burger King were Marketing Manager Bonnie Najera and District Managers Marcos Caldera and Gloria Salinas.

Through its partnership with LISD, Burger King helps make attendance fun by recognizing students with perfect attendance each month. At every campus, eligible students are entered into a raffle to be named that month’s Burger King King and Queen for Attendance, with each selected student receiving a crown and a Burger King Family Pack. The partnership adds another way to recognize students for showing up, staying committed, and making every school day count.

At LISD, every student matters, every opportunity matters, and Every Day Counts!
