Innovation rolled onto campus as Bruni Elementary School welcomed the Texas Mobile STEM Lab, becoming the only school in the Laredo Independent School District selected to host the prestigious traveling Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) experience.
The state-of-the-art mobile classroom transformed the campus into a hub of exploration and discovery, offering students an immersive STEM experience. Designed to spark curiosity and inspire the next generation of innovators, the lab brought high-tech equipment and specialized curriculum directly to Badger students, allowing them to engage in hands-on problem-solving and critical thinking activities that mirror real-world challenges.
“We were incredibly honored to be chosen as the sole representative for LISD in this initiative,” said Michelle Lopez, Bruni Elementary Principal. “Our mission is to provide our students with every possible tool to succeed in a 21st-century economy. Hosting the Texas Mobile STEM Lab reflects our commitment to excellence and our Badger spirit of leveling up in education.”
Throughout the visit, students rotated through interactive learning stations that included:
Science: Exploring biological and chemical phenomena through hands-on experiments.
Technology: Engaging with digital tools and introductory coding activities.
Engineering: Designing and testing structural solutions through collaborative challenges.
Mathematics: Applying logic, patterns, and analytical thinking to solve complex puzzles.
The visit underscored the district’s continued investment in STEM education and its efforts to bridge classroom instruction with real-world application. Families also participated in the campus’ Family STEM Night, extending the excitement of discovery beyond the school day and strengthening the partnership between home and school.
“This event offered our students, parents, and community a firsthand look into the transformative world of STEM, sparking the curiosity necessary to ignite future career paths right here at Laredo ISD. I am a firm believer that every student should graduate with a diploma in one hand and a clear career path in the other; today, we planted the seeds for that lifelong success,” said Thelma Fraga, Digital Learning Specialist.
