LAREDO, TX — Dr. Leonides G. Cigarroa High School, affectionately known as "The Pride of South Laredo," has officially released its event calendar for August 2026. As the 2026–2027 school year begins under the Laredo Independent School District (LISD) theme "Breaking Barriers," students, parents, and staff are gearing up for a dynamic month filled with back-to-school preparation, athletics, academic assessments, and parent engagement opportunities.
Back-to-School Readiness & Orientation
Student preparations begin early in the month at the New Gym for schedule pick-ups:
Seniors: Monday, Aug. 3 (9:00 AM – 11:30 AM & 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Juniors: Tuesday, Aug. 4 (9:00 AM – 11:30 AM & 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Sophomores: Thursday, Aug. 6 (9:00 AM – 11:30 AM & 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Freshmen "Fish Camp": Friday, Aug. 7 at 10:00 AM in the Band Hall to welcome incoming 9th graders.
Additionally, 2027 Senior Photo appointments begin on August 1, and families can take advantage of Texas TAX-FREE Days running from August 7 through August 9.
First Day of School & Academic Highlights
Official First Day: All Toros return to campus on Monday, August 10, 2026, marking the start of both the 1st Nine Weeks and 1st Six Weeks grading periods.
Academies Welcome: Special welcomes go out to students at the Sabas Perez Early College Academy (Aug. 5) and the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH, Aug. 9).
Testing Window: Beginning-of-Year (BOY) MAP Testing for Biology and U.S. History, alongside CTE YouScience evaluations, will take place August 24–28.
