This September, hallways and classrooms are transforming into hubs of hope as students spearhead a month-long initiative for Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Driven by a desire to break the stigma surrounding mental health, youth leaders are organizing campus-wide projects to ensure every peer feels seen, heard, and supported.

Among the key initiatives leading the campaign:

  • Purple Thursdays: Every week this month, students and staff are encouraged to wear purple—the official color of suicide awareness—creating a visible wave of solidarity across campus.

  • Student-Produced Awareness Videos: Student media teams and peer leaders are creating public service announcement (PSA) videos featuring mental health tips, warning signs, and personal stories of resilience, broadcasted during morning announcements and shared across school social media.

  • Resource Sharing: Guidance counselors and student ambassadors are distributing lifeline contacts, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, ensuring help is always within reach.

School administrators and counselors have praised the youth-led efforts, noting that peer support plays a crucial role in reducing mental health stigma and encouraging individuals to seek help when needed.

If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available 24/7. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
