Monica Garcia was elected to the LISD Board of Trustees on November 5, 2018.  During her tenure as a trustee, she was named Board Secretary on November 12, 2019, and served as Board President November, 2022, to November, 2023.

Mrs. Garcia is a proud product of LISD school including Dr. Leonides G. Cigarroa High School. She earned an Associate of Arts degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in organizational leadership with a concentration in management from Laredo College.  

“It is my honor to be part of a remarkable team that together makes decisions that impact not only our students but also the employees of this organization,” Garcia said. “I wholeheartedly believe LISD has enhanced the possibilities for our students to be able to receive a great education without limitations.”

Mrs. Garcia further reiterated her pride in our schools. “Over the last several years LISD has continued its journey of excellence, earning countless accolades by setting high expectations for all who work and learn in our district,” said Garcia. “Working with our community and entities throughout the state, we hope to support the growth of our young minds to aspire to reach beyond their potential. As a district, we continue to support the growth of every individual within our learning community.”

Mrs. Garcia is currently employed as an Assistant General Manager of Administration for Hendrickson Transportation Group and oversees all administration for El Metro Transit where she has worked for more than eight years.

She is certified in Computer Office Technology and has earned multiple certifications from the National Transit Institute in Transit Management Operations, Disadvantaged Business Enterprise, and Title VI in Public Transit. She is a Certified Travel Trainer with Easter Seals to assist public transit riders with disabilities. She is also a member of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Garcia and her husband, the late Marco A. Garcia, have three children, Mark, Valeria, and Esteban and all are proud products of LISD. As a parent of Cigarroa High School graduates, Mrs. Garcia fully understands the needs of students and the supports that are necessary to continue their education as they pursue their lifelong careers.

As a trustee, Mrs. Garcia represents Cigarroa High School, CigarroaMiddle School, Santo Nino Elementary, Ligarde Elementary, Kawas Elementary, and Zachry Elementary Schools. Her support of District 7 schools underlines her unwavering commitment to the students of Laredo ISD.
