The Nixon High School’s Richard Barton Gym was overflowing with Mustang pride as Nixon High School inducted nine new members to their Mustang Legends during a special ceremony.
The Legends were recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions as distinguished graduates of Nixon High School. These nine outstanding individuals excelled while they were students and continued to excel after they left the hallways of Nixon High School.
The inductees spoke about their greatest memories while they were students at Nixon High School such as the Bonfire, the Martin Nixon football game, the poster parties, pep rallies and parades, “The Wall,” winning four sweepstakes in band, district championships in basketball, and most importantly the great lifelong friendships that were created while in high school. They also spoke about the great educators that impacted their lives like teachers Laura Magnon, Jonny Meyers, Mrs. Winters, Coach Archie Ramos, and Principal Viola Moore.
The inductees include a high school basketball who is impacting local student-athletes, a former FFA student who used his experience to shape his career as a U.S. and Mexican Customs Broker and local rancher.
Also honored were three women whose passion to provide children the best education is evident all across Laredo.
The honorees also include two doctors who are providing outstanding medical service to our Laredo community.
Beaming with Mustang pride, these individuals continue setting the GOLD standard and they will be forever Green and Gold. This year’s inductees include Leopoldo “Poli” Guardiola – 1998, Christina Santos Cabello – 1988, Librado Pina – 1975, Dr. Amador Flores Jr. O.D. – 1988, Erika Rogerio Ramirez – 1991, Maritza Montano Gomez – 1989, Hector Gutierrez – 1991, Joseph Michael Dickerson – 1987, and Dr. Cesar Banuelos – 2000.
Students who introduced the Mustangs Legends at the podium included Tomas Blanco, Matthew Delapass, Dalid Najera, Joe Castaneda, Anissa Garcia, Hilda Quintana, Ethan Salinas, Maya Lopez, and Neira De La O.
