VMT Vision
  • At the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts everyone works as a team in a trusting environment to maximize student achievement.  Our school provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum which challenges students to develop problem solving and decision making skills.  Student achievement is measured by growth in relation to curricular objectives and with the pride shown in individual accomplishments.

VMT Mission
  • The school will provide a comprehensive course of study in the areas of communications, dance, music, theatre arts, and visual arts with an emphasis on creative development and artistic performance.  The school will also provide a rigorous academic program that compliments and supports the visual and performing arts.

  • The school’s curriculum places an emphasis on accelerated learning and performance, college preparation and “real world” experiences.  The curriculum also offers Advanced Placement studies in the areas of English Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics and Art.  The curriculum extends beyond the classroom and students are encouraged to interweave their talents with the economic, cultural and civic fabric of the community.

Recruitment Efforts

  • VMT will start recruiting 8th grade students from the four LISD middle schools in early March.
  • Target number of students is 150.
  • Elementary performances are used to help recruit students in later years.

Recruitment Criteria
  • Students must have passed three of the four TAKS tests.
  • Must have 95% attendance.
  • Must attend summer school to advance with certain credits.
  • Must have talent and/or show interest in one of the Communications or fine arts areas.

2004-2005
  • 98% of VMT seniors graduated.
  • VMT attendance rate was 94%.
  • 80 - 85% of VMT Freshmen/Sophomores took the PSAT/PLAN.
  • 40 - 45 % of the Juniors/Seniors took the SAT/ACT.
  • Approximately 10 % of students taking AP courses took the test.
