Alma Pierce HOSTS

In promoting the HOSTS program, Alma Pierce together with the District’s vision, is

to develop and educate students by providing them with relevant and challenging

curriculum.

 

Anti-Drug Messages

Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life – These short segments give vital statistics regarding

drug use, its effects, and consequences.  They are aimed at educating all students on the

facts that drugs are not cool.

 

Adventuras en Español

A Spanish program designed for students third through fifth grade.  The program provides learners with the opportunity to attain knowledge that will enhance their achievement on multiple subject areas.  The program features a series of segments with a puppet as a host, and Laredo ISD students as reporters.

An instructional segment reviewing the spelling differences of words that sound

exactly the same.

Kitchen Lab

A Math and Science program designed for students in third thru fifth grade.  Students will be given the opportunity to observe, measure and predict as well as learn about patterns, relationships, geometry, spatial reasoning, measurement, and probability.

LISD This Week is weekly program designed to keep viewers informed of the daily activities and events happening throughout the district. The program is hosted by Jeannette G. Martinez, ITV Coordinator.

 

Mission Accomplished

A language arts program designed for third grade students.  Students are encouraged to use scientific principles like those used by detectives to understand the passages.  (Available in Spanish)

 

Parenting Skills

A program designed to assist parents in learning effective ways of managing their children’s behavior. (Available in Spanish)

Numerous important topics are produced to inform the district and community.

 

Reading Rocks

Reading Rocks is an award winning Language Arts program designed for students in third through fifth grade.  Reading, grammar, and writing are taught in a fun manner through the use of music and puppets.

A program designed to teach students about drunk drivers and the consequences of

drinking and driving.

 

Success Stories

This series focuses on former LISD high school graduates who established a successful career.

An educational game show on nutrition featuring LISD students.  The game enchances and reviews the nutrition curriculum by testing students knowledge in different categories.

A segment designed to encourage family reading.  The segment suggests ways parents can help their children become lifetime readers.

 

Visions and Goals with Jesus Amezcua
A program focusing on LISD Critical issues and their impact on student learning.

Cat Paws

A movement and music program that highlights math, language arts, health, and

guidance. (Bilingual)

 

Circulation and Respiration
This program investigates two amazing human body systems, the circulatory and respiratory systems. Special attention is paid to an extremely important organ, the heart.

 

Classifying Living Things
This program explores the classifying of living things in science.

 

CNN Student News

A ten minute daily newscast brought to us by CNN News informing all students of the current daily national news.  www.cnnstudentnews.com

 

Digestion and Excretion
This program explores the features and characteristics of the digestive system and excretory system.

 

Earth, Sun and Moon
This program explores the shape of earth, its rotation on its axis, and the different seasons.

 

Financial Aid - Applying for Financial Aid: The FAFSA Process

This program helps high school students to apply for financial aid; the program is geared

to guide the students in the process of filling out the financial aid application.

Heredity
In this program students are introduced to some of the foundational principles of heredity through numerous real-life examples.

 

How’s That Work?

This series explores the origins of familiar items and explains how they work.

 

Modern Marvels
This series examines structures and innovations around the globe.

 

Genetics

A detailed review of the important concepts in the middle school life science relating to heredity, fundamentals of genetics, genetic discoveries and laws, and DNA.

 

My Neighborhood, My Community – People in the City

A social studies program that shows what life is like for people in the neighborhood when they choose to live in a large city.

 

NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration

This science series is designed to inspire the next scientific generation of explorers.

 

Naturally Nature Series

This series consists of four science programs: clouds, ponds, trees and dirt.

 

Nervous and Endocrine Systems

This program explains some of the important functions of the nervous and endocrine systems.

 

Nick News with Linda Ellerbee

News Magazine specials created and produced for students in grades 4-6.

 

Plant Parts

This program explores many of the different plant parts and the important jobs they carry out.

 

Reading Rainbow

Reading Rainbow is an intermediate program encouraging positive reading habits, skills and attitudes.

A social studies program designed to provide viewers with a contemporary view of this most colorful state.

 

The Great Lakes: An Overview

A hist-ography of five influential bodies of water.

 

TLC Elementary School

This series is a Science and Human Behavior program consisting of various segments explaining various educational topics.

 

Unwrapped Food

This series explores the test kitchens and secrets behind popular snack foods.

 

Volcanoes and Earthquakes

This video explores some of the most powerful forces on earth: earthquakes and volcanoes. Through descriptions of actual volcanic and earthquake occurrences, students will discover how these dynamic forces affect our world. The video discusses the nature and causes of earthquakes and volcanoes.

 

Weathering and Soils

In this program students will learn about the two major types of weathering and the causes that alter the shape and composition of rocks.
