MISSION, GOALS, AND OBJECTIVES
(Must be aligned with Campus Improvement Plan and Needs Assessments)

Mission:
The mission of the Textbook and Custodial Services Department is to provide a clear, safe learning and working environment through the efficient daily maintenance of all school district facilities and to provide each teacher and student with the necessary state-adopted books so that teachers can teach and students can learn.

Goals and Objectives:

I.                    All district facilities are clean.

  • A.     Ensure that all schools/departments have their allotted number of custodians.
  • B.     Secure needed staff to monitor school/department cleanliness.
  • C.     Implement the written cleaning procedures.
  • D.     Establish training requirements for all new custodians.
  • E.      Train custodial staff in cleaning procedures.
  • F.      Implement staff assessment of facility cleanliness.
  • G.     Monitor and assess facility cleanliness.

II.                 District facilities are safe through proper custodial maintenance.

  • A.     Implement safety procedures for daily custodial operations.
  • B.     Train custodial staff in safety procedures.
  • C.     Monitor implementation of safety procedures.
  • D.     Implement assessment forms for facility safety.

III.               Custodial services are cost-effective.

  • A.     Implement district custodial allocation formula.
  • B.     Implement substitute custodial plan.

IV.              The Textbook Department adheres to all state accountability standards.

  • A.     Conduct district Textbook Department inventory.
  • B.     Conduct campus textbook department inventories.
  • C.     Implement accountability procedures.
  • D.     Return any overage textbooks within the state-established deadlines.
  • E.      Provide regular textbook management and accountability training to administrator designees and campus textbook clerks.

V.                 Schools and students have all textbooks needed.

  • A.     Verify membership in a timely manner.
  • B.     Submit textbook requisitions within state deadlines.
  • C.     Follow-up with the state on the shipment of textbooks.
  • D.     Adhere to textbook adoption timelines.
  • E.      Secure additional temporary staff for the processing and delivery of new materials
  • F.      Secure additional vehicles for textbook delivery prior to start of school year.

VI.              Textbook Department operations are cost-effective.

  • A.     Implement automation of district inventory.
  • B.     Provide regular training on textbook operations procedures.
  • C.     Conduct unannounced audits of campus textbook operations for implementation of management and operations procedures.

VII.            Textbooks are standards based and aligned to district’s instructional model.

  • A.        Develop instructional materials evaluation tool that integrates district and national standards and district instructional model components to review books up for adoption.
  • B.         Ensure that textbook adoption committee includes administrative representative from the academic team impacted by the textbook adoption.
  • C.        Provide training for textbook adoption committee on the use of the instructional materials evaluation tool.
  • D.        Based on needs of the textbook adoption committee, review standards and instructional model components.
  • E.         Meet regularly for thorough review of materials up for adoption.
  • F.         Hold discussions comparing strengths and weaknesses of each program/system in regards to standards and instructional model.
  • G.        Recommend for adoption textbooks that meet standards and are closest aligned to district’s instructional model.

VIII.         Teachers will have full access to all technology components that come with each textbook adoption.

  • A.      Invite Technology Department staff to participate in the textbook adoption process.
  • B.       Develop list of technology components that come with each textbook adoption.
  • C.      Develop with IT Director and Administrative Assistant for Instructional Technology a technology support timeline for the installation of software that comes with the adoption and for the training in the use of that software.
  • D.      Hold regular meetings with IT Director and Adm. Asst. for Instructional Technology to monitor the implementation of the technology support timeline.

IX.              Produce list of standards-based instructional materials essential for effective teaching in all core areas.

  • A.           Research and compile list of web sites of recognized professional educational organizations
  • B.          Conduct research to determine what instructional materials are aligned to standards and recommended for effective teaching.
  • C.           Recruit teachers to review compilation of data and make recommendations.
  • D.           Design and implement format for data presentation.

X.        Provide pertinent department information on the district’s web page.

  • A.        Work with web master for the creation of a department web page.
  • B.        Submit textbook operating procedures for posting on web page.
  • C.        Submit training and meeting schedules for posting on web page.
  • D.        Submit regular updates of department activities for posting on web page.
