Laredo ISD in Compliance:
August 24, 2009
The Department of Academic Accountability and Compliance has been meeting with the department of secondary education and guidance and counselors to discuss House Bill 3 and high school requirements. HB 3 eliminated a state mandate for high school students to take classes in health, computer skills and one of three semesters of physical education as a requirement for graduation. Local school districts are allowed to retain the requirements.
Texas Education Agency informed school districts on July 3, 2009, that the changes were to take effect immediately and would apply to all students unless local districts explicitly decided not to implement them.
The Laredo Independent School District has opted to continue with the previously ser standards for graduation.
