The Department of Compliance and Accountability coordinates the implementation of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), state, and district accountability policies.  Compliance and Accountability also communicates NCLB, state and district compliance and accountability policies to stakeholders; and monitors and updates school performance targets.

Accountability Measures:
To determine ratings, the Texas Education Agency rates school districts using spring performance on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), the Completion Rate for grades nine through 12 and their drop-out rates for seventh through eighth graders for all students as well as the four subgroups.

Exemplary: at least 90% passing TAKS in reading/English language arts, writing, math, social studies and science.

Recognized: at least 80% in reading/English language arts, writing, math, social studies and science; or make the "Required Improvement" criteria.

Acceptable: at least 70% passing TAKS in reading/English language arts, writing, and social studies; at least 60% passing in math; at least 55% passing in science; or make the "Required Improvement" criteria.

Academically Unacceptable: a district or campus that falls below the criteria to achieve Academically Acceptable receives this rating.

Minimum Size Criteria: In general, this criterion is based on a 30/10%/50 model. If a student group contains 30 students and 10% of the total tested population, that student group is factored into the accountability rating. If a student group has 50 or more students, that group is considered in the rating regardless of the percent of the total population.

STATE ACCOUNTABILITY
In 1993, the Texas Legislature mandated the creation of the Texas public school accountability system to rate school districts and evaluate campuses. The Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) provides comprehensive reports that provide student performance, student demographic, staff and key financial data.

Academic Excellence Indicator System
An annual report from the Texas Education Agency, required by state law, describing the educational performance of the district and of each campus in the district, including accountability, student performance, student and staff demographics, tax, budgeted expenditures, program, and class-size data.

For more detailed information regarding Laredo Independent school District and individual campus performance, current year Accountability Data Tables can be accessed through the use of the following table.
