Community Relations
Building support for our public schools… it’s everybody’s business and business is good. Communities in Schools, Junior Achievement of Laredo, and Literacy Volunteers of America are but a few of our Partners in Education.
Crisis Management
The safety of students and staff is our top priority. But after 9/11, we’ve redefined our crisis communication plan. The Office of Communications plays a pivotal role as a member of the District’s emergency response team.
Graphics
Need to dress up your next report card night or student recognition event? From banners to posters and everything in between, the District employs two full-time commercial artists who specialize in graphics artwork.
Instructional Television (ITV)
We’re on Instructional Television, Channel 8 on cable. “Chalk Talk with the LISD Superintendent,” “The LISD Sounding Board,” “In the Spirit of Excellence,” and “Up-to-the-Minute” are just a few of our colorful shows highlighting student services, programs, and activities. Other shows supporting the Superintendent’s Priority Goals include “People, Places & Things to Know,” “Mission Accomplished,” “Campus News,” and “Fact O’Mania.” ENTER SITE

Public Affairs/Governmental Relations
The Mayor, the Senator, and the Governor aren’t just elected officials. They’re key communicators who represent our school children. The Office of Communications works with other District staff to keep tabs on important happenings from City Hall to the State Capitol.
Public Information
Someone has requested a copy of the official minutes of last month’s Board meeting; the U.S. Army wants a listing of all high school seniors for recruitment purposes. No problem. The Director of Communications is the District’s officer for public information, and each school principal and department director helps the officer comply with public information laws and the District’s policy on public records. All requests for information should be forwarded to the attention of the District’s Director of Communications.
Public Relations Issues Management & Consultation
Are rumors damaging morale within your campus or department? Having trouble communicating with parents? Our highly trained staff can share some proven techniques to enhance your PR efforts.
Publications & Promotions
Annual reports, monthly and quarterly newsletters, weekly news releases, brochures, calendars, maps, and other publications help to tell the LISD story as best we know it.
Special Event Planning
The annual Spelling Bee Contest, Texas Public Schools Week, School Board Recognition Month, the Annual Employee Retirement Banquet, ground-breakings, dedications, and ribbon-cuttings are some of our many special events. We know what it takes to make any event extra special.
